I've got a blue slate hen that has a rather large clutch of eggs in a dark, isolated corner of our coop. The last couple of days she's been getting on them in the evening and staying on them overnight but then she gets off of them in the morning. When she is on them she hisses and gets defensive like she's broody. I've been searching and searching for info and haven't found anything. So I have a few questions.
1. Does it take them a few days to really kick into full broodiness?
2. Have these overnight sittings ruined the viability of the eggs?
3. If they aren't ruined is there a way we can encourage her to stay on them during the day?
Thanks for any and all replies!
