broody dilemma

Update: DAY 23

I split up the eggs. Today one chick hatched. One perfect little white rock pullet. Broody hen tried to peck it to death. Thank God I was home to witness it. Rescued the chick. All of the other 11 eggs were candled and determined to be not viable. Is it a problem to raise just one chick by itself? I know chickens are social animals but i dont dare try to put it back in the coop now.

Please get it a friend. I have experienced both a broody raising a single chick and had a single chick by itself. They were both miserable. Outcasts from the rest of the flock without "siblings" to hang out with.

I don't know much about broody hens as I have my own post going about it, but what I would do, is steal the eggs that the Orp has been sitting on and give them back to her, then replace the eggs with plastic easter eggs or something to that nature. Or just leave it be as it is. Good luck.
