I usually collect all my birds’ eggs everyday but today I was busy and forgot. When I went to put them to bed I was watching them and saw my duck Jemima (a 6 month old golden 300) nuzzle her clutch of eggs and nestle down onto them to keep them warm (so cute!!). I’ve never seen her or my other duck act broody before. I want to let jemima have one duckling this spring! Any tips? (I have a mixed flock; two chickens and two ducks)

Thanks!!

Are your eggs fertile? meaning your other duck is a drake? And please if you do have fertile eggs let her hatch more than 1, ducklings/ducks do much better if they have a flock no matter how small 3 ducklings would be ideal then if something was to happen where you lost one there would still be 2 for comfort.

Exactly. Ducklings are very vulnerable to accidents and that. There is a large chance one will die, so having 3 is perfect. And if you only want one more, just sell the other ones. They also like playing with each other and snuggling together. The mom will like it better too.
