Hi there,
Please can anyone help us, our 2 girls have been with us for 4 months now, everything was fine for the first 2 months, both laying everyday since we got them. Then 1 went broody, a couple of weeks later the other went too. It has now been over 2 months, they dont want to get out of bed or run around the garden like they did. I get them out every morning, shut up their bed, so they only have outdoors or their run. they sit around hudled together all day, only coming out to poo, drink and eat. They have also gone off layers pellet and will only eat corn. If I dont let them into the run, they just hudle up somewhere else.
Can anyone suggest anything ? We are getting desperate and want them back to normal ... PLEASE

I'm sure someone else with experience will be able to help you better, but I'm curious as to how long they have only been eating corn? Corn being carbohydrate could really be messing with them and in the heat of summer too.

Are they actually sitting on eggs? We had a bantam that was broody for over two months but she was actually sitting on eggs. They will sit until something happens. Her eggs she was sitting on for the most part were not fertile, two of them started developing but did not make it. At first we tried letting her "pull herself out of it and give up" but eventually we had to pull the eggs from her nest when she went out to eat. There were a few days of her looking lost, but within the week she was back to normal. If they are not sitting on eggs then shut them out for as much as the day as possible, if they are used to hanging around your yard they will stay in the area. Or if you want more chicks you could get some from a local farmer and put them under your girls. Do you have a Roo with them? I'm not very good with chicken therapy, but maybe their instincts are kicking in and they "know" they should be doing something......

hi, thanks for your reply, they are not sitting on any eggs and never have, ive always removed eggs quickly. no there is no rooster either, we dont want any babies. I will lock them out of their run and see how they get on.

Theyve been eating corn alone for a few weeks now, i'll stop feeding them corn and give them layers pellets alone ad see how they do.

I think ive got to be crawl to be kind

... many thanks

They just want to be moms! Locking them out away from the laying boxes for a couple of days should work, as long as they are safe. It is important that you get them off the corn, though. It sounds like you're doing the right thing. Good luck!

Woo hoo
