Ooh, fun! Glad you're joining! What breed is she?I gave my new broody 6 eggs today. I tested her with 4 fakes and 1 real egg. I guess that one will have a days head start. Nothing like having a hen do what she was made to do. It beats squirting water in a hole or waking up to super low humidity.
That's what Fudge did! Sitting on for a few hours, then a few more, until she stayed overnight. I'm so excited for you!I didn't want to say anything (not even to my family), because I absolutely did not want to jinx anything
, but I do believe my Buff Orpington is now BROODY!!!! Starting a few days ago (after I accidentally broke her), she started sitting on the fake clutch of eggs for like 2 hours a day, obviously more than usual. Then she went 4 a day, then 6 yesterday, and now its 8:45 here (dark) and she's been on since about 10:00. Someone told me once they brood overnight you can be pretty sure she's committed. But I am still going to wait a few days before I give her the right eggs. Also, I recently learned that one of my neighbors down the street a ways from me sells hatching eggs!! So I am going to text them tomorrow and ask what kind of things they have. I know I want to hatch some of my own eggs still but I know they have all sorts of ducks and geese and other chicken breeds I don't have. So I will get back later as to what I may or may not be getting. SO EXCITING!!
I locked down ON day 18.Lastly, a quick clarifying question, do I lockdown ON day 18 or after on day 19? I hear people say to lockdown AT day 18 but don't know which that means![]()
Thank you!!That's what Fudge did! Sitting on for a few hours, then a few more, until she stayed overnight. I'm so excited for you!
Oh okay thank you again! I was going to lockdown after so thanks for telling me.I locked down ON day 18.
She’s a Dominique but the eggs are a random selection of all our hens. So it will be EE over Dominique, Black Australorp, Buff Orpington, Brahma, Wyandotte, and EE.Ooh, fun! Glad you're joining! What breed is she?

Well, I have had some Pekins, and they were pretty fun. We had four, and they were for meat, but we only ended up eating three. We were going to keep the littlest one as a pet, but it got some leg problem, and we had to put it down. Also, does anyone raise ducks here, if so what's your favorite breed? Even though my username is after a duck, I am relatively new to them. Ive got two khaki Campbells, a pekin, and then two ducklings (a welsh harlequin, and a blue runner).

I waited until my girl had stayed on the nest overnight, then moved her where I wanted her, then when she was settled in I gave her the eggs. It's up to you.How many days do you suggest I wait to move my hen?
Thank you! And also, can I give her both chicken and duck eggs? I don't want her to throw the duck eggs out because they take longer than the chickensNo problem!

You could give her the duck eggs, then wait a week and give her chicken eggs, so they all hatch at the same time.Thank you! And also, can I give her both chicken and duck eggs? I don't want her to throw the duck eggs out because they take longer than the chickens
