Broody Hatchalong!

And sorry for all the confusion - but my hens are definitely not broody yet. I think I was just getting excited and wishing it into existence . I will leave a clutch of fake eggs though and keep trying. But they do sit in the boxes much more than usual and growl at other chickens that come close (something they never do). So I think they might be trying it out.

Oh dang, Im sorry. I recently found out that a chicken I thought was a barred rock (and I bought it for the price of one), was actually a cuckoo Maran. Unfortunately mine was also killed before it started laying eggs. Right around week 24 too.
I was looking back at pictures and realized it had pink/grey legs and not bright yellow.

It's okay. My sisters were more disappointed because they were two of the ones they had named.

My dad and I candled our duck eggs last night, and we're not doing so well. We started with 14 eggs, and we had three quitters, three clears, and one that we weren't sure on, so kept. I don't think we'll buy eggs from that lady again.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed. The lady even advertised that she had great fertility rates. Hmm. Well, at least I still have some. And if all of these hatch, that will be perfect. We really only wanted 6-8 ducks. We just thought it would be nice to have extra ducks, but apparently we won't.
