I had a broody and put 8 eggs under her. They are hatching and yesterday looked like one was half hatched and not under her anymore. Last night it was close to her Wong and I left it and this morning it was a little or agaim and looked dead. I picked it up- it’s breathing and stillnhalf in shell but there is blood. I put it back under her. What do I do? Is blood normal
Or is she rejecting this chick???

she may know it's not going to make it..my broody did the same with 2 of her eggs..

Can you lift her to see what else is going on? I’ve seen 2 chicks - and the half hatched - she had 8 eggs

I just helped a broody with 2 last week. She had been sitting for so long (over a month before I finally gave her eggs), I don't think she was physically "ready" for hatch day, so when they pipped, they were very dry and stuck. I basically just popped the air cell end off, and stuck it all back under her. Both are fine and dandy today!

If they have gotten a lot of air/wind, or if she has been off the nest at all, they could be a little dried out. Just try to leave the chick's butt in the egg, and let momma take it from there.

Thx! I tried putting it back under her and I can’t tell what she’s doing now. I see it’s beak and all and it’s breathing- feet Sticking up. Ants are all over everything- is that normal too?

Oh my gosh, I'm sorry i just saw this. How are they doing now?

Ants? Not normal, but hopefully momma will eat them!

Hey, it's not your fault. These things do happen. I just try to think that things happen for a reason, beyond our control. Maybe 5 was all momma could handle. We never know. So don't blame yourself.

They look adorable! Congrats!!

Oh, and :welcome
