Hi all have two broody hens sitting on about twenty or more eggs between them.
About a week ago I noticed a handful off eggs outside the nest so I grabbed them and out them in my incubator not expecting anything to happen. Well hey presto a little over a week later and we have one perfect chick. I have now got the chick in the brooder.
My question is would one of the broody hens whose eggs are I hatched be mum to this chick if I put it underneath , what do u think x

Yes she will possibly take the chick depending on the breed of the hen. She might then also abandon the eggs that are still under her. What breed of hen do you have? I found that 8 eggs fit comfortably under my Brahma hens and they are big. 20 eggs are a lot even for two hens.

She is a specks lady the hatched egg is actually one off hers, they with a few others fell out of the nest so I quickly put them in the incubator a week ago. I am keeping the chick in the brooder and see if any more hatch in incubator if do all good or may be broodys eggs she is sat on will hatch just didn't want a single chick
