Have a broody cuckoo maran who is not responding to the broody breaker. FYI the broody breaker is a large rabbit cage up on blocks. There is food and water but no bedding, mesh floor. This normally works pretty quickly but this stubborn gal has been in it for a week now and no luck. As soon as she gets out she dust baths, eats more then high tails it back to the nesting boxes. Tried the " cold bath" two days ago then put her back in the cage and at roost she went straight for the box again. She is or was the top hen in the pecking order. Is that part of her problem? There is no rooster in the flock so no fertile eggs at all, in fact she doesn't even try to sit on the other girls eggs, just goes for her fav empty box. Any advice would be extremely helpful.

Not sure what to do about your broody girl.
How long was she broody before you put her in the broody cage?
....and how many days have you left her in the broody cage?
Has she been broody before?...and successfully broken?

Guess just keep her in the cage let her out once every couple days to test her.
It's harder when it's hot, hopefully you can keep the cage in a cool spot with a fan maybe

Thanks for your reply! The flock is just over 18 months old and this is her first time going broody. She is actually the second girl to go through this. The first was one of the blackstars and 3 days in the cage fixed her but it was about 10 degrees cooler.
