Broody hen pecked on when removed from nest

A makeshift set up should work in most cases. It's mainly about keeping the hen from setting in the nest.

You can try only keeping them out during the day but I find some will sneak back into the nest at night, which is the opposite of what you want.

What about just preventing access to the coop and nest, except for nighttime, instead of a cage, would that work?

Do you have other birds that need to lay? If so that won't work too good.

You could block all nests just before roost time, then uncover well after dark when you lock up..... or at first light in the morning and then putting broody back into her space.

this was all very helpful! I did not have to intervene today, I think the problem is sorted the solution involved various uses of: cage; blocking access to the coop; blocking access to some nesting boxes, and repositioning her majesty when she did tried to set in random spots. Hopefully she will lay again in a few weeks.
