Broody Hen Thread!

It's November but I think my chicken is wanting to sit on hers. Can't be sure but I know that suddenly she tries to run up the ramp and attack me when I take her eggs. If there's no egg she doesn't attack me. What should I do.

Angry Bird earned her name honestly.... She defended her nest very seriously the first time she decided to be a mom...she was a very angry bird... And so that's what she was called ever after... Luckily she's mellowed out with age and experience and has learned that I have no intention of hurting her babies or stealing her eggs. So we've reached a truce.

On the side it might be unstable but I could probably just turn it upside down. Maybe that would work?
Edited to add a link to a pic of one like mine: http://www.petco.com/assets/product_images/0/045125601541CS1.jpg
Yes, upside down would be good. Place something just under the edges/corners to hold it off the dirt a few inches, but not far enough under it so she can lay on it. You want her to cool off her breast area. Usually only 3 full 24 hr days is all thats needed.

I do take her eggs right now this is the point where she comes at me. i figure its getting cold wasnt sure shed be ok taking care of her own. should i let her or am i ok taking them? but yes definitely angry bird...and if there isnt an egg in there she remains calm and tries to stay away from me she is a shy bird. Thats one reason i knew something was up. the first 2 days she did nothing until i guess she caught on to me the 3rd day she shot up the ramp flapping and screaming

I have a duck and two chickens sitting on eggs right now , I live in southeast ga it only gets cold at night for now, but Angry Bird sleeps in the run with her ducklings and no extra heat with no problems.

Lol! I've got one who earned the name "Mean Girl". She even comes when you call her if she's not broody or with chicks she's hatched. If she's in that mode, watch out!

I have a staggered hatch. My broody hatched out 4 chicks, 3 EE/leghorns and one EE/blue wyandotte.
I brought these in so she could keep hatching. She now has 5 RIR due on Mon. I had some in incubator

I hope they will do fine since I went through 3 black outs. one for 11 hrs, one 8 hrs, one 4 hrs.
