Broody Hen Thread!

Im so happy.. The only thing im concerned of is the crooked neck
After a tough hatch the chick will rest much longer than on that hatched themselves. Leave it in the bator till it dries and fluffs up. Once it's up and about then you can see if the neck will be a problem. I hope it perks up and is nice and healthy!

My RP hen is trying to get broody. Sat most of yesterday, and has been sleeping in the nest for about 4 nights. She's almost fully bare bellied. Hoping she's ready by Monday! Have some of her eggs that will have been in the bator 1 week on Monday, then I can give her a few of those and some chicken eggs!!!!

Sigh...day 22 and not one of the 11 eggs is showing any signs of hatching. She was such a good broody, but with shipped eggs you never know. Agway has babies so I will buy her 3-4 tomorrow.

My Dixie had kicked out one of my BLRW to a corner ...and then broody-pooed on it. Needless to say when I found it it was cold. I washed it off and brought it in the house. It was too much of a mess and after the washing...it would have never made it so I did an egg-topsy. Not one bit of red speck on that egg....never developed. I sure hope these eggs are fertile! She's got the last BLRW egg from Kentucky under her, and then the 4 eggs DH picked up for me.

Feeling disappointed about losing a BLRW egg... Down to the last one. The one with the detached air cell never reattached BTW. Pitched that one too.
