Broody Hen Thread!

I see you setting up that camera for the big event. Don't forget to put that one on line too so we can all watch the little one's appearance. Exciting!

OK
How's that! Take a looky at clucksnducks.com
Ready for the event.... Saturday is the day .... (June 14, 2014)
Can't get any closer.....
So.... gotta make a phone call then I'm going out to move her.

Well I had one hatch Friday, 2 Saturday and now 2 on Monday. They all look very healthy and I put in a very small container of water with large rocks inside and food because she is still sitting on the nest. This is my first broody so I definitely should have put all the eggs under her the same day...but I think everything will be ok. She is a good mom.

Hahaha what fun to watch you on your cams. Looks like you've accomplished the move successfully! Well done.

Yelp!! She moved over very smoothly. Those eggs better be viable! I didn't candle them. The lady that gave me 8 eggs had hers hatch just 3 days ago or so. 21 days exactly. So I know they're fertile. Had a lot of issues with other hens getting in the nest while momma was out on her only break. She faithfully left them only once a day. Sometimes the other hens were there long enough to lay eggs. I found extra eggs and tossed them over the hill as I didn't know how many days they were under her. I must have thrown away one of the fertile eggs cause I only have 7 now. Yes, I marked them.... SO 7 chick-a-dees come this weekend. Check in often.

If this works, I will never buy another chick. Won't have too and won't have to worry about things like the recent salmonella out break at the Mt. Healthy Hatchery in Ohio. Control.... I'm all about control..... perhaps that's obvious with the cameras!!! LOL!!

So get your
