Broody Hen Thread!

Five out of six have hatched, and the one left I'm giving a little bit longer before we give up. Two hatched overnight, and the one left candles ok and doesn't smell, so we will see. I moved momma and babies to a nest on the ground, and she transitioned okay even though she has an egg left. She's not getting up, but only one chick is interested in eating, the first one hatched yesterday. By this evening I will remove the last egg if still not hatched. Lillie (our broody) is being much calmer and nicer about being handled and the chicks being touched than she was last time she hatched. I love hatching with a broody!

mom and the first hatched, plus a little yellow butt and leg sticking out from her chest! I think the yellow came from a white egg, no idea what it is, haven't inspected it closely yet. The black I thought was from the hamburg egg, but that is the one still not hatched. I think this one is a marans mix from a dark brown egg, but not positive.

one of the ones born overnight, still a little damp, hatched from an unknown large white egg.

a sweet little EE, chipmunk markings and cheek poufs! We have two like this, one darker than the other, both hatched from green eggs.

Congrats! I love little fuzzy butts!!!! So glad your momma is calmer this time!

I'm DYING to get home and see my girls and their babies!!! I left 2 weeks ago and 1 Silkie had 3 week old chicks, and another was still sitting, she hatched 4 about a week after I left, so I haven't seen them at all! :( My sweety sends pics, but its just not the same!!!! Only other crazy chicken people like me could understand that I miss my chickens almost as much, if not AS much as I miss my man!! Lol

Still waiting on the last egg, not so sure it's going to do anything but mom is dutifully sitting. The five hatched chicks are moving about more, and mom is calling them out to eat and drink, So sweet! I understand about missing your chicks, we are going on vacation soon and I have to leave them with a pet sitter. I know momma hen will do a great job, but I'll be so worried.
Here's more cuteness!

These two are the bravest and most active, so probably boys! Lillie is teaching them how to drink.

sweet little yellow chick investigating what the black chick has in it's mouth

"What's that momma?" what a sweet little face.

It looks like four of the five chicks have cheek poufs, so I'm suspecting an EE or Ameracauna roo was the sire. Can't wait to see them grow!

Sadly my little broody bantam decided halfway through day 3 she was missing out on too much fun outside, and got up off the nest and didn't go back :( Eggs are now in my friends incubator, and i'm hoping that between the two of us we have a hen go broody in time to sneak a couple of eggs under before they hatch, and then get her to adopt the chicks.
My friend has one broody hen, but she has been sitting a while already, and she already has some of my eggs under her, but they are 2 weeks in, and i think the age gap might be a bit big to get her to foster the incubabies when they (hopefully) hatch.

So fingers crossed for another broody hen here. Anyone have one they want to send to me in NZ? hahaha

I have 3 Brahma Icelandics that spend more time being broody then laying eggs! Each will go broody within 2 weeks of the last one, every 6 weeks. Seems I always have one in the broody breaker!

I currently have 4 laying, 1 broody in the breaker and waiting for the 2 others to"catch Broodiness" from her. I still have 10, 9 week old chicklets from the last hatch!

Careful what you wish for..... Lol

My broody and her 10 lovely eggs are in my flower garden. I'm not worried about her, she is well hidden under the roses up against the house. I am, however, worried about the chicks, I have cats, dogs and wild life here so my question is when to move her, or move her at all.
If I move her now I could break her broody mood or her eggs, if I wait for chicks I could lose them, or maybe she'd reject them?
Anyway, any advice is appreciated.
