Broody Hen Thread!

So I think our Duck may be going broody? I am not sure. She is not sitting on the eggs yet. Every morning when I go to collect everyone eggs I have to uncover them. I am leaving the Ducks eggs just to see if she is going broody. Once she sits on them I am going to replace them with Chicken eggs. She isn't really hanging with the other Ducks like she usually does and I notice she does get upset when you go near the Coop she doesnt attack but she keeps her mouth open and knd of does a biting action in the air at you...is she going broody??

I have no duck experience, but if she were a hen I would say it sounds like she is working on building a clutch....
Hopefully she decides soon so you can have her hatch before the weather turns nasty.

She is up to 9 eggs. She steals the other 2 Duck eggs so she gathers 3 eggs a day. Hopefully not much onger until she starts to sit so we can move her and her nest to the other coop to let her sit in peace. She shares a coop iwth the chickens and the chickens want to lay in her nest. Our Mallard hen was broody in June/July but styopped i=sittign after a few days. Thinl because of the chickens wanting to lay their eggs on her nest.

I would sure loan you all a broody hen if you were close. Other than the Silkie's(I cage them to break their Broody moods) I have just set 3 more broody hens making it 32 hens I had to go broody just this season. All but these 3 hatched out about 99% of all the fertile eggs put under them---around 300 chicks for the season.

Haha! Same here, I get so many broodies and soo many chicks, it's unbelievable! Yesterday I set my 49th broody for the year!

Today is day my eggs should hatch its day 21 for the eggs under my broody if I counted correct. When should I start worrying about if they are not going to hatch. I know they are fertile cause I had one break and it had a formed chicken was inside.

Now. Worry now. They we're suppose to hatch in 21 days, max 23. Candle and float test. But I worry for you that it's not gonna be good news.

If they are chicken eggs, about a week ago. They should have hatched around day 21, the broody must have stayed off the nest to long and they died some days before they were due--- if there was a good formed chicks in the eggs. Some times a broody can get scared off the nest just after dark and can not find the nest till day light.

Edited to say, Kada below answered~~ Good Luck
