Broody Hen Thread!

I really need some help! My one broody hen has been for for a little over a week and has been sitting on some fake eggs. And I am getting the fertile ones tomorrow. So I move her into a separate cage and with some food and water. And when I put her in she went right after the food! So then after I put her by the egg and she still didn't want to sit again. And it's been 20-30 minutes. Do you think she'll lay on them again? Please any answers?

I usually leave the coop or area where you have her. Make sure it feels enclosed maybe a sheet over the top draped down the side. Don't disturbed her for a while it usually takes the longer to settle down it is day light. I would wait and check on her tomorrow. If she is committed she will go back to laying on the eggs.

I have a broody hen with eggs due to hatch this weekend. She has 6 under her and I have another 5 in the incubator (just in case one or the other does work out well). I also have 6 chicks that hatched last weekend. The hen is currently in an elevated nest box in the rgular coop. The chicks would have to negotiate a ramp if I left them there. There are also 3 other hens that are not the least bit broody she would have to defend them from. I purchased a small "coop' that fits nicely inside the pen and will give the broody hen a place to raise the chicks for a few weeks where they will be separated but still within sight and sound of the other hens. My question is......once the eggs hatch this weekend, with the ones that hatched last weekend be too big to have her brood them too? Will this be too many for her. If they all hatch (which I doubt) there would be17 of them. The brooder cage should have no problem holding them for a month or so.

Ok thanks! I just went to check on her and she is totally back to full broody mode! Yes!! Thanks, Billy
 
I'm moving my hen into the brooder pen tonight, she's been sitting for 8 days, would anything show up if I candled the eggs?
