My black cochin bantam was fighting over Cottons two. One of them died yesterday and she only has one now. Good thing that my others hatched last night and EARLY this morning in the incubator so I gave them to her and now she is a happy momma.
That's cotton and her little one.
She wasn't too happy about me putting my hand under her just to get one out to get a picture. I have the battle scars to prove it! Haha
Crazy momma haha
I just try to candle my eggs...... feisty little thing my Thumbelina , they say they will be helpless at night but she is never helpless, just kept on pecking me, and I'm taking pitch black of night, i manage to block with my left and steal with my right hand, got 4 out and check them... one looked suspicious like may have the famous blood ring, and the other 3.... well no idea!! just kind of darker than before, like around half darker and the other half not so much... i know they where clearer couse i check them at the beginning, but i don't know what to make about the new state, i was expecting veins..... any thoughts? (PS. sorry no pics, it was so hard to grab the eggs that i didn't even remember)
My Broody is doing good. She is on day 13 and still has 5 eggs under her. I candled yesterday and 2 are infertile and 3 are growing well and wiggling around. 8 days to go.
aaaaaaaaaawwwww they are super cute! My hens chicks are getting way bigger! one the prob rooster is sooooo sweet! I feel so bad for my BO Daisy she wants chicks sooo badly. I have too many chickens though. =(
Hi. I just had my first broody hatch out 5 chicks 3 days ago. I gave her 5 fosters 2 days ago. All are doing well. I had a partition up so the chicks couldn't wander far but the hen could get over it. This morning, I went out and found her chicks peeping and her tucked in on another nest of eggs.
I removed the partition and moved her but she went back to a nest with eggs. The chicks are staying with her. I actually removed the eggs and stuck some golf balls in and she was happily sitting there with babies and balls. I did find her off of the nest, dust bathing and scratching a bit later in the day, with babies in tow but she is now back on the golf balls and babies.
She growls at me, like she did when she was setting, whenever I go out regardless if she is on or off the nest. She isn't acting protective towards the other hens.
Is she really wanting to go broody again? She isn't in great body condition right now.
Again, this is my first time with hen hatched chicks so any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.
Realized I didn't post a pic. Here's a few of the babies. There are 5 JG or JG/BO cross and 5 black JG.
