Broody Hen Thread!

Thanks, guys. I found a local farmer with newly hatched Ameraucana chicks, so I bought three and stuffed them under Chickadee with the surviving chick. She didn't bat an eye, just tucked them beneath her and clucked happily at them. :)

I'm in a predicament and I need my fellow members thoughts/ideas ..
I just got a broody hen to sit on my eggs that my other hen is laying but obviously not sitting on.. I brought the hen home and put her in with the eggs. She still hasn't laid down on the eggs and she spends most of the time on the perch . She isn't showing anymore signs of being broody except that she's not laying eggs. (She is a year old ) . Since I took her out of her broody setting will she stop being broody?? I'm not quite sure what to do. Help??

I think you snapped her out of it and I would have placed the eggs under her.

I showed her the eggs and I put her in the box with them hoping she would take to them and I haven't been bothering her just in case I made her nervous..

I have my first ever Broody hen, My flock consists of 4 red stars and a mixed breed white hen and rooster. They free range, but I have a chicken tractor that they don't use. My white hen dissapeared for a few days and I found her sitting in the nesting box of the chicken tractor on about 15 eggs. I dont know how long she has been sitting in there, but I closed the door to keep the others from laying on top of her. it has been about 2 weeks since I discovered her so I am hoping to see some chicks soon!

My Cochin is a pig! Haha
She has 11 or 12 eggs under her. She couldn't cover them all properly. So I took two away from her and then she tried to roll them back under but she couldn't because of the wall so I gave them back to her and she happily rolled them back under her. I don't think any of them but two are fertile b/c she is separated from my big rooster until I let them out.
