Broody Hen Thread!

I think you are right! I have 2 that went broody today! Of course it was after I put eggs in the incubator on Friday -.- should I chance it and tuck them under them tomorrow night?
well you can , but I like to wait and make sure the hormones are in overdrive before I tuck them under if they are set in the bator and your hatch rates are good I would incubate in the bator tuck a few other eggs under the broodys and then at hatch I would tuck the chicks under and let her do the brooding ,,,,

I have 2 White Cochin hens sitting on 8 duck eggs now- the same nest and eggs too! They won't sit on different nests, they have to be together. They've never even tried being broody before- they're about 4 yrs old now too! 2 boxes down, another 1 of their sisters just went broody too- she's so flattened out I laugh every time I see her. She doesn't have any good eggs under her- so I may give her some BCM eggs to hatch out...Here they are...pardon the dirty boxes. One of these days, we need to power wash their coop and white wash it all again.

I am gonna tuck new eggs under her instead of the incubators eggs. And let both of the broodies take the chicks him hatched

I have some eggs that were due yesterday but they still haven't hatched today! I candled them a few day ago and all i could see was the air sack (rest was black) but no movement! I was wondering how late others have been in the past and the chances of the eggs hatching!
Thanks! :)

The chances are good chookin always note 21 days is a base line and is a incubator base with consistent temps and controlled environment I have had eggs under broody hens go 23 days and hatch fine , listen for chipping as internal pipers will make noise and cry out to the other eggs in the brood,, good luck

Every time my white silkie hen goes in the little nesting box outside in the pen my buff silkie rooster will stand outside the door of the nestbox till she comes out,and he will wait all day if he has too.My flock right now consists of an Easter egger rooster,2 black sexlink hens,2 golden comet hens, buff silkie rooster, buff silkie cockrel, and a white silkie hen. I think the white silkiw ants to go broody but I keep collecting the eggs so im gonna leave her to lay how ever many she wants and see what happens..I hope she goes broody

It won't take much to flip her switch I have used white silkies for years as incubators with the increase in day length up in north America she will be more inclined to brood it's kinda natures way of telling them it's time to make the donuts as they know the chicks have a beter survival rate in the warm weather the increase in light fires a gland the drives the hormone engine and wella broody , have fun I just luv um

Still no hatches! :( One fell out and cooled completly so i opened up to find a yolk with what seemed like a 5 day-old chick that had seemed to of died! what is the causes of this? Im hoping they are not all like that. Maybe going to put another batch under her this week although she is still sitting on the same eggs! ;) Thanks for all your advice! :)
