Oh Jharper, I'm sorry to hear that! I have a broody, and had no eggs, so I let her sit on some unfertile eggs (actually, one turned out to be fertile) and got some hatchery chicks to slip under her. I saw her step on one of the chicks yesterday, and it was dead this morning. I also have seen her peck at them, but mostly at one that looks different (a different breed). However, she is also keeping them warm under her. I'm really worried about her abilities as I saw her step on another chick again today, but more on it's foot, not smack on it's body. It seemed ok where as the one yesterday was lethargic the rest of the day and into the night. It was in the nest when I found it dead this morning

I took the different looking one out, and will keep it by itself until that one egg hatches, which I stuck in the incubator... but it won't hatch until the 18th, and it's a bantam, whereas the one I took from my broody is large fowl. Hope they get along!
