they are the only two hens in that coop. My others have a bigger standard size coop. As I will be adding a bantam Roo but want to hatch pure breed eventually . Sounds like I should just watch and see how it goes. Unless someone has a different experance.
Grafting chicks to a broody means you let them be broody for a while and then at night you take away the fake eggs and slip in the chicks from the feed store under her. It has always worked for me. They take care of them as if they hatched them. You should cup the chick in your hand and slip them in from the back so the broody does not try to peck your hand as this could frighten the chick so she is scared to bond to mama. You do this one by one. When I do it the chicks are chirping up a storm and then contented silence. I am not saying this works for everyone but it has for me so far.
Even with that in mind you should consider it from the perspective of your birds feeling they are being chased by a predator....that isn't a fun game to play when you are a prey animal. To each their own, but *I* would not allow that sort of behavior in my dog w/out a correction because if one of your birds ever gets loose you want them to know that chase is not allowed.

How cute to have a Roo take over mommas spot for a bit.I'll have almost 40 eggs hatching next weekend

least with my last broody he was. She allowed only him next to her chicks.be careful with your roo..... um my bantam/aracauna grabs onto the hens and holds until they pull away - i might have to get rid of him anyway though GOOD LUCK with the 40 hatchlings are you using an incubator??? or no?i just love little chicks lol its to cold at the moment and after being broody for ages we FINALLY put eggs under her - she set on them for 2 weeks and got off that is sooooooo typical good thing we had a back up incubator - we have 8 in there hatching on the 14th of may and because its cold we will use a heat lamp and a box so fingers crossed
