there are more on this sight. They were all good hens! Just awful the way it happened !! With the response I got from my neighbors in front of my kids ! I think most people think they are just our egg producers not our pets. Thank you for being kind.

I know. My chickens are certainly my pets, or else when they decided lay only a couple eggs a day and eat the rest I would have gotten rid of them.

I hope all your eggs hatch and you get some really healthy, cute chicks!

I'm sorry for your loss, I lost my red sex link, Maddie, Sunday. Not sure what happened but it broke my heart to pieces. I'm hoping some of the pullets at my friends are hers. I don't have as many pictures as I wish I did and she was only a year and a half old. :(

I'm a bit concerned about my Delaware pullet, Mean Girl, who is broody right now. Thankfully, she only has another day or so to go before hatch day, but she's only been off the nest a total of 5 or 6 times since she went broody and I gave her some eggs to hatch. Her comb is so pale it's colorless and she's just been in a trance almost the whole time.

She finally perked up today when I gave her some sunflower seeds. She was actually making the noise that calls the chicks to eat when she saw them. She did eat them, which is good. She's just been so out of it this whole time, much more so than any of the other broodys I had this year. I am pretty sure I hear chirping in at least one egg, so maybe it's close. Is it dangerous for her to have been so glued to the nest like that? I'm wondering if I should have made her get off more often, I just try not to interfere with them as I know that they know better than I do what to do.

My Marans/Buff Orp broody did that last spring. When I finally dragged her off the nest about day 16, she couldn't walk. It took 10 minutes of helping her get back up to get to her feet. Once she was up, she went out and drank an ate and pooped and was gone 30 minutes or so. As far as I know she didn't get off the nest again until they hatched. She is on eggs again, and I'm dragging her off every 2 days. AS my DH says, "How did chickens survive for thousands of years without you." LOL Were it me, I would leave her alone now since she is so close. She may have been getting off the nest occasionally. Is there any way you can put water within her reach?

Hi. I have 2 year Old bantam hen. Its her first year she is brooding her eggs. She's been laying on them for over a months. She started with 2 eggs and now she has 5. So that means she laid 3 more. Her first 2 eggs never hatched.
We do have one more hen that we recently got so our white one can stay broody. Before she would only stay broody for 2 weeks and then leave her nest. Now she actually stays there. And this time she didn't nest in the coop but in between some aloe Vera plant. She comes out only to eat so we didn't get a chance to candle them. Th3 new hen does not get near her nest because they don't get along.

Quote: Yes, I have had food and water within reach for her at all times, she has just been so out of it she rarely eats or drinks. I just checked on her and one of the chicks has hatched and another is pipping. I'm not going to mess with her at all, especially now that chicks are hatching. She's just so pale, I wondered if it was a problem. She did eat today and is far more animated than she has been for the whole time. I'm assuming it's because the chicks are hatching.

Hi everyone. So We have a hen named Soci and she is broody. So I Managed to finally move her and her eggs. She has been broody three times this year, but still no babies, she always got confused where her nest was. Anyways now I made a mock-nestbox and she really likes it. She is one of the most aggressive Brodie's we have ever had. Oh my goodness you should see how hard she pecks! Anyways it's about day 6 and she is doing great.

Here is her setup
