i have a broody austrolorp she was found laying on about 14 eggs. but where she was laying is where i had chicks die last time because they couldn't get out easily and there was no water. I tried moving her and isolating her to another location and she didn't like it and has abandoned the nest. are there any suggestions as to what i could do to isolate her and make her comfortable enough to stay
Well, Three out of ten Serma (spelling?) Anyway if nothing happened to them, hen is a first timer, I should have three little ones running around with their mom...when I get home. I know it seems like a low hatch rate...but I'm just glad I ended up with three!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed....hopefully all will be fine....
She's not laid for 4 days now and has stuck to the nest so much that I've been a bit worried as she hasnt eaten, drunk or pooped in a few days. I took her out of the nest this evening to put some straw in as she'd kicked all the bedding out and even putting her down right next to the food and water she just spread herself out on the floor and didn't touch the food. Put her back on the nest and gave her some eggs and she shuffled them all round under her as I gave them to her and seemed happy with them. Great pictures!
