Broody Hen Thread!

Well GUESS WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
ZERO pipping this morning. Went to sporting games, came home and found this <3. The other egg hasn't pipped yet.
This is a baby buff Silkie from nice quality stock. So exciting!

It might sound silly, but I am just so happy with one. I am going to be chill about egg #2 now. I will probably peek tomorrow afternoon, but I am going to leave the mama and baby alone in peace for a bit now. I seriously wanted this super sweet splash Silkie mama to get her baby and I am so relieved! I'd so love a second chick and I am now a bit hopeful, but one will work for now!
Good things come to those who wait....or not, LOL!I am so thrilled for you and for your hen. Such a pretty baby and a GREAT photo. Good luck on the second egg.

Don't know but

seriously? 5 weeks? My youngest hen was a Buff Orpington and she was 9 months. I'd be interested to know the answer to that one myself.

Yep she wont get away from the 4 day old chicks she feeds them and sits on them at night and even cleans them when they get mucky

So gorgeous. My little Sikie (who I posted pictures of above) and her buddy, a white Silkie were both that age, maybe even a hair younger, when they did exactly this to a newborn little bantam Easter Egger we put in with them. They took turns and it was the craziest thing. It was absolutely, positively, mothering behavior. We brought the neighbors over and they agreed. It wasn't a one-off, but they did it constantly, sharing between the pair of them, until the little one was 5 weeks of age. Super sweet.

Well, this morning, the morning of Day 23, the first baby looks just great under the mama and her second egg was still intact. I took it to go candle and it was clearly moving and shaking as I picked it up, so I just slipped it back right under my hen. Ugh. I hope this thing hatches!!!! I thought, but wasn't sure, as I didn't have my glasses on lol, that there may be the teeniest teeniest pip, but again, I'm not sure.

And now this! Our little Easter chickie is about to emerge! (Yes - I lifted her up for the photo. the other little baby was tucked underneath her happily :D )
I am so excited it seems that both eggs have hatched!

@mysterychick

Who's happier? You or Mama Hen right now, LOL!

Congratulations to both of you! Beautiful babies.

Well I am feeling pretty dang happy, but I think my hen is too. She did the world's most enormous poop, and getting that out has to feel good, plus she has two babes. Life is good :)
