You need to have tow or more chicks

It is helpful to have two or more, but not essential. I have had broodies raise a single chick, and the chick has been fine. It is nice, though, for them to have a companion around the same age. It probably bothers us more than it does them when they don’t.

Thank you, I don't have room for two more chickens but I think I have enough room for one more. We are going to build another coop when we move so if I hatch more chicks I will always keep more than two.

Better to just keep one than too many and overcrowd your chickens. That can lead to a whole other set of problems.

I would suggest you break them both.

She was just laying, @aart I will break any other broodies. We are working on trying to build a bigger pen. Broody 1 can hatch her eggs. I will make sure that all my chickens have plenty of room.

The frizzle is definitely not the dad, we sold him last year. It is possible that my rooster or hen has the same parents as him, so could any of my chicks possibly have the frizzle gene? I would love to have a frizzle hen.

If both parents have normal (not-frizzle) feathers, you should expect all chicks to have normal feathers too, no matter what their relatives may have had.

Frizzle is a dominant gene, so any chicken with the frizzle gene will also show the frizzled feathers.

All 4 eggs are alive! All of them had an embryo and defined veining on day 10! Once again you know my pic taking skills. This was the best I could do. Also, should I be worried about the cracked egg? It now has a crack like when you lightly drop an egg. We put a layer of hay under the eggs tonight so she can't crack them anymore. (Unless she decides to move the hay.)
