Broody hen

My australorp hen just went broody but my dad says we cant get fertilized eggs.

While it can be fun to have a hen set eggs & hatch chicks, it CAN be a lot of extra work & bother. Then you have the chicks to tend to all the weeks after Mama leaves them. And then the chore of deciding what to do with them when they're grown, especially all the roosters. I bet there will be other times in the future you can get eggs to set under a broody hen. Meanwhile, break this hen's broody mood by putting her in a wire-bottomed cage set up high so she gets a nice breeze up under her. Give her food/water but no bedding. After 3-4 days she should be ready to go back to her regularly scheduled programming.
