Broody Hen :-)

Yes she went back on the nest about 20 mins after she left! She started pecking and pullung feathers from the other hen! And she has been on until 2pm she is running about and drinking amd another hen is on the box again lol and i have 2 other nesting boxes they just all go to this one! She's sitting on 13 but she was on the nest all night!

My hen just went broody 2 days ago as well. I confirmed it when at night she was still in that nest box. Now I think her going broody may have stimulated the other to go broody as well. They're both in the same nest box! good thing there's enough room for both, but not much more. Congrats! it's exciting. This will be my first hatch. I've got some in the incubator but I don't think that's going to happen. But yes, make sure she has access to lots of food & water but she needs to get up for it.

At 2:15 she started pulling feathers and made the hen leave the box and iwas able to get the egg from the hen that got on at 2p....its lile she is letting the other lay then gonna hatch their eggs haha

I didn't want to chance it. Besides I think she tricked me again. I still got the broody on those eggs but the daughter took off. I've placed a baby gate in between and made her a new roosting box, we'll see what she does with it. I got some mighty picky girls.

so far it's ok. she layed on the nest as I cleaned the coop around her and moved her around (still in the box) so I could separate her & the other laying hen(s). She didn't mind but the other did and wouldn't go on the new roosting nests I made for them. She's back and forth on the fake eggs, so I think she's trying to make sense of what's going on but the rue broody is still brooding & that's really all I care about as this point. She's laying on 12 eggs and I'd hate for them to go to waste.

Ok guys its day 4 and she isn't letting anyone on or close to the nest!!!! I found 5 eggs in the corner of coop so she has stopped letting others in to lay I take it she has meet her clutch! But that's an awful lot of eggs!!

My attempt to separate completely failed. The broody made her way out to eat and the other made her way in to nest! Now there's 13 eggs in there!!! I had to number them because it's past the point of no return. Any new ones being laid will be collected for the next incubation.
