I have a 3 and a 1/2 week old chick. I recently built a new indoor coop beside my chicken indoor coop. I have a broody hen inside the chicken coop. When I put the chick in yesterday for a while. Everytime I picked her up and she squealed to protest the broody hen was reacting by coming of her eggs. Even today I took the chick out of the brooder and into the pen because it was warm in there. When I went to put the chick back in the brooder, she squealed as always. But when I picked her up the brody hen came off her eggs and was running towards me and the chick with her wings open. If you had broody hens you will know what I mean. She was going towards the chick like she does to her eggs everytime she comes back from eating. What does this mean. Was she protecting the eggs or does she think the chick is hers? If she does then would it be possible to put the chick in the same pen as her when the hens chicks hatch.?
