Broody in Feb!!!??

I don't think it's hijacking in this case.
I believe it is 21 days for chicks to hatch, that is how long it took mine. As far as if the eggs you had are viable, I don't know. Maybe someone else can help. Good luck

21-22 days to hatch. Goosh. I'm not sure about those eggs. 4 days you say. Hum. You could try candling. Or you could put new eggs under her that you know are good and haven't been left to the cold. I think someone told me that they should be about 60* or so to work. That's why you're not supposed to refridge them. How sure are you that they were out there for 6 hours? Were they freezing cold when you got them? Or just kinda, a little cold?

Thanks for answering!
The hen has been acting broody for 4 days....I put the eggs that might have been upwards to 6hrs old under her. Today when I made her get up to eat and poop, I put 2/10/10 on those eggs and 2/11/10 on two more laid this morning. Sorry i wasn't clear on that!

Well she went potty.......

lol I think i want to try and candle. Its day 5 so do you think i would be able to see any thing? They are light brown to dark brown. or should i wait till day 7 or 8? Thanks,

Chicken Girl

Well I have mama and babies and egg all settled into a dog crate with food an water availiable. It's a bit crowded in the coop but hopefully it will be ok.
Chicken Girl, I never candled my eggs, but if the last one doesn't hatch by tomorrow I might.

I keep thinking that's what I might do. Put I might put them in the garage until they are bigger. Like a month old. I guess I'll wait to see if mama excepts them. My dog crate is Xlarge. It could not stay in the coop.

I was worried about having to re introduce the hen and babies to the flock. I have three young welsummer pullets and a phoenix roo that are in a divided area of the coop and have been for over a month but the flock is still not wanting to accept them. It would be great if I could put mom and babies in there. It's only an 8x8 coop.

Ok I have a question, The two babies hatched on Wednesday and the hen is still sitting on the third egg. How long should I leave the egg there? I did add an egg to the nest on day 2 or 3 of her sitting. I have not candled it.

If you added it 2-3 days later....I would wait 2-3 days longer. Just my opinion. I would wait until Monday. By then something would happen if it's going to happen. Hopefully she would stop sitting on that egg.
