Broody leghorn

I might give them another week, than remove them, unless you are sure they are dead, they will turn into egg bombs if left too long, they should actually start stinking through the shell if they are dead. I always like to give them a chance because in the past I've cracked eggs I thought were dead but weren't and I felt terrible.

Well I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Something got the eggs so no chicks. I'm thinking maybe a squirrel. We have a lot of them. But who knows. Now I hope none of the girls go broody till spring and in the nest not outside

I am sad especially for her cuz she was so dedicated but I was dammed if I did and dammed if I didn't. Hopefully all will go better next time. This was def. a learning experience.

Aww, bummer. Tough situation tough lesson.

Is she still broody hanging out in that nest?
Now would be the time to move her back to the safe place you have set up, put some fake eggs down and see if she settles in.
Give her a few days confined and see what she does. I don't think it's too late in the season, close but still good.

I have had lots of those kinds of learning experiences, those you never forget nor repeat them.
Ditto Dat^^^

No she went back into the coop last night and was on the roost with the rest. That's ok. I think spring would be better anyway and I'll be more prepared. She took me by surprise. I had just broke 3 other broodys when she dissapeared
