raiser! I love them all. Love pets. One BO rooster(1yr), 2 BO hens, 2 RIR hens, 2 blk Sex links, 1 red Sex Link (all 3 still babies). One RIR hen started sitting on her nest for 2 days, then stopped. I wonder, how will I know when I should start leaving the eggs for a hen? I would put eggs from the other hens w/her. But how do I know when they will get serious? One BO hen was given to me and hatched some chicks before. She was a good mommy. I read as much as I can on here to get advice. I thank everyone. :)

With broody hens you can usually tell when they sit on their eggs for about 2 days without them getting off. You can also tell when they get off the nest they will spread their wings out and also cluck.

In my opinion and from past experiences, cochins are the best broody hens. I have had the most hatching from my cochins. I love them !

Cochins are nice, but what you never see in pictures is the filth that collects on their feet and the poo on their butts due to the small downy feathers all over. Also, can't quite tell what my cochin is doing. She was sitting on a different nest today. Tried to seperate her and all she wanted to do was get out and range. But went back on an empty nest at night.

Mayby shes still deciding where to actually start sitting?
