I want to see my broody do that! Oh, Cyn, that is such a special thing to experience. That is what real life is all about. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Olivia's baby hatched! Perfect, clean hatch, quick and easy. I think it's a cockerel. Hawkeye's son with Lexie. We just caught a glimpse of him, but very silvery. She let DH reach under her to pull out the shell, top neatly stored in the bottom. She's in a state of complete maternal bliss right now. I'm so proud of her!
Funny thing is that Velvet, my silly Blue Orp girl, laid her egg on the ground outside today, like she does on occasion. Her area is adjacent to the broody pen and she can hear the chicks, but I have a barrier for privacy up so she really cant see anything. After depositing the egg on the ground, she went back in, listened intently to the babies for a few seconds, then hopped into the nest and fussed with the "seating arrangement" for a few minutes. Then she got down, listened some more, ran outside, came back in and got back in the nest. She'd better not pick now to go broody on me. Some customers for her eggs would not be amused!
What a cute little picture, Kitty! Since one of the chicks that I hatched three weeks ago is turning out to be a pullet rather than a cockerel, this little one, Dutch & Zane's brother, can stay, as long as they can all get along. There will be plenty of hens to go around. I still haven't gotten a really good look at him yet. Livvie is trying to keep him under her, I guess till he's dried off completely.
Congrats Cyn, Livvie and Zane. Livvie is being such a good mommie. My new GLW and BO chicks are doing great in the brooder but yours look so much happier with Livvie.
Barbara, I cant wait for you to have the broody hen experience with Gabriel and your girls! It's wonderful, especially with a hen like Olivia or my Sunny, who trusts us to handle the babies and do whatever we need to do with them or her. And I am itching to get a good look at that little son of Hawkeye and Lexie's!
Ok Cyn I looked all over for the post of your boy so I knew what happened (really it isn't being a betty when you care LOL). Do you have a link to that post as I just can't find it Thanks Hope he is doing better
