it has happened
i went in to check on the girls this afternoon and spotted something strange....
a pancake
hmmmm
what could be under this incredibly flat birb??
16???
Jesus girl :/
my coups not that big
after getting a drink and a good stretch she was right back on them.
a good mama for now
now i know people say that quail are really bad at incubating their own eggs. but someone in this coup cooked up three babies in late fall last year and i dont know who. i think i now have a suspect.
im going to get a bin and heater ready for when they hatch but im gonna let her incubate them if she can. iv got a security camera i spy on my chickens with that im going to move over so i can keep an eye on her and on the big day. im not sure how long shes been on them. but im guessing between 2 and 5 days. so mark your calendars guys
any thoughts on things i could do to make her more comfortable? i only have 5 quail in a fairly large coup. with so little crowding do you think she might actually brood and care for the chicks? it would be awesome to let them grow up with their mom. can i move her and have her keep incubating do you think? i know you can with chickens. but quail are so finicky i think she'd abandon them.
also if i thin out the clutch do you think she'd abandon them?
16 is a bit much for me. id rather her only have maybe 5-7 of them. anyone near Saint Charles IL want some organically hatched quail if she pops them all? XD
they will look just like their mom probably. the rooster in here is almost her twin.
...she needs a name now. i dub her Pancake
