Broody??? Too Funny!! *PIC ADDED* Pg. 7

gritsar, you are my kind of chicken person! My girls are slowing down on production and they still eat like lumberjacks, but I've enjoyed them so much that it seems unfair to eat 'em in their senior years.

Just have to get more youngsters to take up the slack -- oh, well!

exactly! they lay eggs faithfully and deserve a happy, peaceful retirement- what better than to enjoy them- its not just the eggs- they are friends!

What would be even funnier would be to use some of her and her meaties sisters eggs. Their roo is a turken. Can you imagine what those chicks - meatie/turken Xs would look like?

I WANT Them!!! I want them!!! Please???

sorry, the eggs she had were brahma eggs. Impy (the turken) has yet to figure out how to successfully mate one of the big meatie girls; although he practices...alot.

I haven't checked them yet, although I need to. DH has promised to build me a candling box on his days off this week.

Build a candling box????

Take a shoe box and turn it over. Cut a hole in the bottom just big enough to set the egg on. Stick a bright light, say one of those on the end of a cord, in the shoe box. You can notch the shoe box to let the cord through. It does not have to be a big hole, just a small notch on what was the top, just barely big enough to get the cord into. Wrap a dark towel around the shoe box to stop the light from leaking out at the bottom.

I don't buy into the theory that you are a helpless female depending on a big strong male. I think you are extremely capable of taking care of these things yourself.

Hey, I do wish you luck when Keith gets it built. Hope the candling gives you good news.

Turn off the light in your room, take DH's flashlight in your right hand, with egg in your left - place it on top of the flashlight and cup your fingers around the bottom of the egg/flashlight top to shoot the light into the egg. Move light around if you need to.

Then show DH the baby in the egg. When babies wiggle - do as my DH does and appologize for shining the light in their eyes.

Then be ready - cause everytime you head near the eggs - DH will be asking "are you candling?" "is it lockdown yet?" with the sound of hope in his voice. (gotta love him!)

Ahhhh, Mercy.............hurry up and try again girly girl - you can do it - I know you can.
