My neighbour is concerned about her chook. It's definitely gone broody, but can anyone help with why she has black near her nostrils? There's no discharge and her chest sounds fine. Hasn't left her egg all day, so is it just broodiness?
TIA

Hard to say.
Could just be dirt...tho the right side looks a bit swollen.
Broodiness shouldn't cause that,
tho broodies can lose condition making them more susceptible to disease and pest outbreaks.
How long has she been sitting?
