Hi. My husband and I became chicken people when our teenage son showed up with three older chicks that he had been given in a cage. We hurriedly built a henhouse and studied up on them. Sadly, all three of our first chickens started crowing and we don't have them any more.
About 10 days ago a neighbor gave us three hens, who are molting right now. Then our cold front hit on top of the re-location so I don't know when they will ever lay again. We're just trying to keep them warm right now.
Over the weekend we were gifted with a younger bird that we are trying to introduce to our little established flock.

We're total newbies but excited about our chickens, and happy to be in the group! Alison
