Brown Leghorns vs. White Leghorns

Which one is the better layer?

I don't think there's any difference; they're the same breed, just different color variations.

Better layers or better personality?

I have had both. The whites were the best layers, but the browns were less skittish, less flighty and less noisy. Both my browns and whites came from the same hatchery.

ETA: The browns still lay very well even though the whites started laying at a younger age

So if I want the best layer but also need a relatively peaceful bird, then the brown leghorn would be the choice?

I have a fair number of White Leghorns now from different sources and don't find them to be particularly panicky. It's in the management style I suppose. They do fly well though so if a big dual purpose hen would jump at something you did a Leghorn will go over your head.

Can't beat them for eggs. If they stop laying everyone else stopped days before.
