All spiders.give me the creeps if I feel they can get at me. Only reason this brown recluse was in the clear for me to look for the fiddle on the back was because it wasnt able to get at me. At least I don't think it was. Don't realky want.to know if it was either.

No. I f you check the link they only run 10 mph. 30 mph is part of the urban legend.

Exaggeration is not necessary! 10 mph is plenty scary enough.

yeah if I meet one of those I will have to dig myself a hole and hide. Amy big ole spider is reason to go running. We have seen some huge wolf.spiders and also the Missouri tarantula. Didn't like seeing either of em

Hubby was bitten by a brown recluse...only a small scar after a course of antibiotics...but it sure was one nasty wound. He had gotten into some poision ivy the same time and place he got bit and didn't even realize he was bitten, thought the poision ivy was running amuck. Doc said it was classic brown recluse.
Also took a jar of black widow spiders away from a middle schooler at the school I teach at...thought it would be cool to bring it to science class. I hand delivered it to the science teacher on his behalf. Could just see the jar being shattered and mass panic in the hallway and bitten kids everywhere- we would have made foxnews for sure. *heebiejeebies*

Brown recluses are one of the few creatures I kill with no reluctance and no mercy.

Our old house was infested with them for years. Finally got rid of most of them, except for the occasional find.

This site would ban me if I used the language that properly describes how I feel about brown recluse spiders.

And, yes, I know that without a food source they cannot live. However, our house there had a crawl space under it, and the crawl space bottom was dirt. There was no way to guarantee no food source.

We've only killed a small number of them in this house. Much better!

See my biggest thing is bites from bugs seem to do worse on me than most. A mosquito bites me I get big lump, two bite close I get bigger welt. Allergic to bees, tick bites too. If a tick bites me just briefly, most people it goes away with in a wek and doesnt itch anymore. Mine take over a month and usually end up scabbing from scratching. spider bites I don't know and sure don't want to find out. My fear isn't normal.arachnophobia. mine is the possibility of an adverse reaction.

Well this is certainly NOT what I wanted to hear! As I will be visiting that area of the states frequently, and geeze the hole a brown recluse caused in a neice of mined's thigh is horrible!
She had to go and have her wound repacked for weeks.

There is also the HOBO Spider. Like a close kin to the Recluse, but travels well in boxes and freight. He has invaded Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Montana and others. Nasty little things. Use sticky traps, they work.

Camel Spiders are friends of man. They have 4 pinching mandibles that open and close vertically and are not venomous. If one did bite you, you could die of fright though!

But their pinch isn't very painful to people, but they devour scorpions, cockroaches, and other nasties at a rate that will make your head swim. I don't like the idea of one running up my leg, but I let them live now, even in the house.
