All live food. She had gout when she was younger (I adore her but knowing what I know now- I would have gone to a breeder for one) and we had a rough start. And now she eats very poorly (not for lack of me trying though). When they are under a year much of the their diet is protein, but once older it should be mostly vegetables. Actually the ducks and chickens - aside from the feed- eat the same! Dark leafy greens chopped small, some lettuces on occasion but lettuce is not usually recommended for beardies, chopped up berries and the occasional chopped grape...crickets, butterworms, wax worms (very fattening), superworms, reptiworms etc...altho for ducks and chicks you need to offer mealworms instead of superworms. Beardies should not have mealworms- they have very little nutritional value and too much chitin. I think superworms would still be great for ducks/chickens though- just the small ones. She sounds like a excellent beardie! Does she take reptile pelleted food or live feeding? I've heard feeding them was a bit pricey at first but I think I'd be able to handle it. Luckily, being a aquarist for years has helped me with at lot temperature and lighting. Those to this day proper lighting for my planted tanks is a bit of a struggle. I had no clue they didn't urinate! Yea cresteds are so much more fragile I'm surprised hatcheries even breed with them anymore. Racers are so adorable when they are young! Luckily I haven't had any predatory issues with snakes yet but the neighbor's escaped Viper came close!![]()
So if I buy too many bugs and she won't eat them- I can pass them down to the ducks or chickens which works out fantastically!
