Update I think he’s zipping! There’s a small pip right next the original pip

I sure hope so! This is my first time so pretty nervous. I plan to get a better incubator with fans. I know I’ve made a few mistakes threw out and the crappy bator. Just praying the little guy is ok and makes it. Started with 6 and all died except this one.

Yes, I have a farm the frequently has ducklings. I do have some pretty small female call ducks that are amazing mothers that may take a khaki on I’m fairly experienced in owning and caring for ducks just not incubating.

This is the he progress this morning! I don’t think it was zipping last night like I thought, more less piping a bigger hole than what was there. This is the start of day 29 about 30 hours since first pip. Anything I should be concerned about from this photo and progress?

It’s hard to tell from your pictures
Is baby making the line around the egg or towards the end of the air cell ?
It’s normal for baby to make first pip
Then a long wait till second pip then more waiting till the zip
I have had all types happen
1- pip in the same spot making a big hole but not going around
At that point baby needs assistance as he is stuck and cant turn to zip
2 the line of pips are to the end of the egg and not around the egg
Again baby needs done assisting as it’s probably got a leg in the wrong position and can’t turn proper to go around
Both cases you just watch for them trying to zip as that means they are ready but just need you to remove a little shell so they can have room to push out
The mark on your air cell looks small
Is that where it was when he did the pip ?
Small air cell means baby will external pip faster as they run out of air quicker but still need time to absorb giving a longer period from external to zip
Large air cell the external happens later as they have much more air and will zip faster after external
I have had one take over 36 hours from external with a small air cell and one take take 8 hours after external with a large air cell
They really do things at their own pace

Thank you so much for your reply. So no that’s not the size of the air sac. I stopped marking it after like day 9 ish. I’m thinking he is stuck the membrane looks yellow what do your think? I literally just heared him peep as I’m sitting here. So awesome

Second pip above the first and now a third to the side of the second ?
If this is correct then baby should be able to zip the rest
If baby did hot outside the air cell with first pip that means it can take 48 hours or longer as they skip a step but still need the time to absorb
I have had a few do this and both took over 48 hours from first pip
One at 52 hours I had to help her out as she was in wrong end and started to struggle at the 52 hour mark but she still had a tiny yolk that took another few hours to absorb

Ok ok. But what do you think about the yellow membrane is he shrink wrapped so you think?? From your judgment when should he start zipping roughly. At the latest at least. I’m so nervous if I. Need to help I wanna be able to.

is he just making one big circle or does it look like he is going to the side ?
