Bubble Wrap vs. Egg Cartons in Shipping

I have received eggs both ways. I have received broken eggs only when they were bubble wrapped.

It is not really what they are wrapped in but how much material is between the eggs and the outside of the carton.
The material also has to have give. Densely packed shredded paper seems to do the best.

Too small of a box and not enough material between the eggs and the outside seems to be the problem.

If I ship a dozen then I bubble wrap each egg individually and then put them into an egg carton (since I ship duck eggs which are big even before the bubble wrap, I usually have to cut the top off of the egg carton). I use crumpled up newspaper again to make sure the eggs can't move at all.

What I do might be overkill but I would feel terrible if i did a half backsidees wrap job and then wasted someones time and money. I can't do anything about USPS but I can do my best to make sure they are packaged well.

I haven't shipped too many eggs but so far I haven't had anyone complain of breakage.
