Bubbles in Eye on Silkie - MG?

Can you get some photos of the inside of her beak?
This is a Silkie? For some reason, it does seem that Silkies are prone to getting food stuck in their nostrils.
I would clean that back out.

If you see no plaques, lesions or canker inside the beak, then I would no treat for that.

I agree, that I wouldn’t treat for canker if you do not see lesions inside the beak or throat. It could be that the blocked nostril is adding to the eye foam. Have you had canker in the flock before?

Sorry it took so long, as I needed to wait for my hubby to help hold her. Here are some pictures I just took:



The eye doesn't look all that bad in this picture. But sometimes it has more bubbles in it. As you can see, I don't see anything "canker looking" inside of the mouth. However, the gunk that I've been digging out of the nostril is hard -- almost like food colored hard chunks. It's very hard to soften up with water, which makes it hard to get out of her nostril.

Yes, it may be just a matter of something blocking the nostril that is adding to the eye bubbles. However, yes, several years ago I did have one hen that had canker. This silkie hen was around at that time, so she was exposed. It was only one hen that was affected at that time and I have not seen any others come down with it since. That hen was originally treated with the Fish Zole and it resolved the problem. I understand that they are carriers for life and that she probably exposed the rest of my flock to the darn canker.

Try a drop of peroxide on the harden food/debris in the nostril, see if that helps soften it. Use a plastic tooth pick or orange stick to help pry it out. Sometimes a warm compress may help loosen what's in there too.

I just gave her another dose of Baytril (this is day #6). I looked into her nostril with a flashlight this time and it's got some gunk further inside. It is like dealing with concrete. The poor girl gets so stressed out and starts gasping for air when I'm digging inside. I've been using the end of a feather to try to dig it out, as I heard that mentioned on here from someone else. But I haven't yet tried a drop of peroxide, so I'll give that a try tomorrow. Right now, she's just too stressed out. I've been using either Vetericyn Plus or Vet Rx to try to loosen it up. I thought I got it unclogged the other day, but apparently I didn't see what was further inside. This poor little thing!

I just gave her another dose of Baytril (this is day #6). I looked into her nostril with a flashlight this time and it's got some gunk further inside. It is like dealing with concrete. The poor girl gets so stressed out and starts gasping for air when I'm digging inside. I've been using the end of a feather to try to dig it out, as I heard that mentioned on here from someone else. Just work on it slowly. If she's stressing, give her breaks. Sometimes it may take a couple of days to work a plug out of the nostril. A warm compress may help or even a little steam for her to breath - careful not to burn her but maybe a steaming cup of water with the VetRx held near her nostrils for several minutes, let her breath it in. Just some ideas.
Minimizing stress is the way to go though.

I decided last night that, because of our crazy rainy and cold windy weather here now, that I wanted her in the warm house where I could keep a good eye on her. So she's presently in a box now with food and water. I gave her a dose of Baytril this morning - today will be the last day (Day #7). As you suggested, I put a drop of peroxide into her nostril this morning in the hopes that it will loosen up the gunk. I've been checking her eye regularly and it looks pretty darn good (knock on wood) -- very little bubbles, if any. Of course, I'm not sure if she's shaking them out before I take a peek. She's acting completely normal -- eating, drinking and pooping. I'm going to put another drop of peroxide in her nostril to try to loosen up the gunk. She's such a sweet little thing -- she just coos at me when I talk to her. Gotta love these little things!

Glad you brought her in, it's easier to give them specialized care that way.

I just got done putting another drop of peroxide into her nostril. OMG -- it's finally starting to loosen up so that I can dig more gunk out. I'm really starting to think that she had some sort of infection brewing in her nostril. Not only did stuff come out the color of food, but also some dark crusty crud. And it started to bleed a little, despite me trying to be super careful with the end of a feather. There still appears to be a little more gunk when shining the flashlight inside, but the airway is open. I will try another treatment again tomorrow. In the meantime, I also gave her a foot bath to clean off her dirty feet, along with a nail trim. Of course, a blow dry of all wet feathers to end off the spa treatment. Now she's back in her box enjoying some oats.

That sounds good. Have you just tried adding water to chicken feed to make an oatmeal consistency? Oats apparently are not good in large amounts for chickens.
