Bubbles has cut the cord and is no longer in the brooder pen with the babies. She's back in with her flock mates and has resumed the role of beta hen. She's too sweet for her own good.

You can see in these pics the differences in her eyes. The bottom pic shows the eye that was badly infected; it's quite a bit darker than the other eye with some strange brown wash-like parts in it.

I have babies again! These little cuties started hatching last night, wee lil Marans.



I'm hoping when I get home from work this afternoon there'll be more little faces staring back.

As for Bubbles, she's going well. Summer is well and truly here in the Southern Hemisphere with hot weather and wild destructive storms.

They are adorable. At least chicks don't mind the heat, but pretty much everyone else in Australia could probably do without the excessive heat and storms.

If we had mild days with rain once a week I'd be happy.

Well three of the chicks will be going to market on the weekend - the Fav roo and the two Araucanas. They were all wormed and dusted for lice and mites last night in preparation for their new homes.
I'm a little bit sad at having to sell them, but I can't keep more than one rooster and I have to be realistic and move some on.

So I managed to sell my cuckoo faverolles rooster on Saturday at the sale - however, I'm clearly very bad at chicken maths as I bought home another Dorking hen!

I've never been good at refusing to take a chicken that needs a new home. So now Bubbles has a little mate in the new Dorking I've called Squeak.
