Sometimes, for no logical reason I can determine, I am "unsubscribed" to this thread, even though it says I am subscribed. I stop getting notices that there are new messages. The fix is to click the "unsibscribe" radio button, then log out, log back in again, and hit the "subscribe" button again.

But I have to do it about once a week, fwiw.

I have a longevity question for the dedicated buckeye breeders --

How long do you keep your hens in the production flock? Does anyone have a four yr old?? Or a 5 year old hen?? Three yr olds?? This can be as either an egg producer or a breeder hen (right term???)

I have lots of cornish and have crossed many types and my roos have no accuracy problems with rather larger standards or any size so far.

It's pretty well the same for all chickens, for the best feed to egg ratio you probably don't want to hold onto your hens for more than 2 to 2.5 years, their egg laying really declines rapidly past 3 years.

Happens to me too, I have decided that there is an internal "timer" for subscriped topics, and suddenly...BANG!
You are unsubcribed...tick tock tick tock....

Super Cool to know!
My friend here suggested the cornish pullets can be in a different pen with a Buckeye Cock over, but they are supposed to be poor layers, and feed to egg laying is way off, so I am sticking with a flock of pure Bucks, and a meat pen of Dark Cornish Cock over maybe 2 Buck Hens...and we are very excited about collecting the eggs to eat/sell or hatch & sell the meaty chicks for sale or grow out pen for our freezer, when ever the freezer gets low on meat...no more store bought chicken
