Also, between 1910 and 1915, the weights for a pullet and hen was increased by a half a pound so from 5 to 5.5 lbs & 6 to 6.5 lbs respectfully. Same today.

Thanks to Chris for detailing some of the changes that have been made over the years to the Standard for Buckeyes.

It's always best to breed to the most up to date Standard, IMO.

And I do believe in supporting the APA and ABA in all they do, and one of the ways I do so is to buy my Standards from them directly. Here's the link to the APA SOP: http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/APA_ShoppingMall3.htm

@ chris and Laura,

Thanks Chris, it sounds like only the wording was changed with the exception of the larger hen size.

Laura, you are sounding like the SOP has required a change in the bird? Yes? No?

I have been wanting Buckeyes for a few years now and I'm building a new coop and have an extra pen. I was wondering if any of you guys and gals are going to the Ohio National in November and would be willing to sell a pair or trio.

thanks,
Corey

Over the years, some slight changes, yes. The birds of today look different than those Nettie Metcalf started with, which is as it should be, as the breed has been refined. All breeds evolve, and the APA and ABA are very good about making sure the changes made aren't just because one little faction of breeders want them changed to fit their existing birds, but because they're logical updates.

I am going to the Ohio National in November and will have trios available. It is the American Buckeye Poultry Club's (ABPC) national meet & our annual club meeting.
