I brought them to an Amish guy for a haircut.... if you get my drift.
He butchers them for a $ 1.40 each

OK now I get it. (I need an embarrassed smiley) I can be slow at times.

Wow, I wish that I could find a guy like that. I've been waiting for DH to help me out with butchering for weeks now.

Memorial planned for “Dumplin”

Dumplin passed this morning after an “accident” with a set of shears. He was a gentle barnyard bantie that loved to scratch, play and crow. He came to our small farm just after Christmas with his flock of hens, a pair of Cochin Bantams and a trio of large fowl Buff Orpingtons. Dumplin lived a full life. Dumplin was a mixed breed bantie, showing signs of OE Game, Mille Fleur and more. His parentage is not certain, however, Dumplin left behind his hens, lots of chicks, and a son that is still flying free along the banks of the Mississippi River (FYI: We could not catch him). He will lie in state in the slow cooker until this evening. The memorial is planned this evening at 5:15. Cheesy potatoes will also be in attendance.

Orginialy written on January 14, 2010.

FYI: We are already planning a memorial for some Buckeyes later this fall! Dumplin's son is now in a coop awaiting whatever future Jen decides.

What kind of incubators/hatchers are you all using? I may have the chance to get a humongous one, and I'm thinking that I may be a little touched in the head for even thinking about it.

Update: The thing is really too big, as I can't even imagine a thousand eggs at this point.... phew, thank you for returning, oh sanity. I'll just wait till I find a broken-down side-by-side fridge and make one like I've seen on here, till then, it's the Hovabators...

Hens too!!! I had some ugly splotchy hens that I picked up from a guy south of Dayton a year or two ago, they were never to standard but LAYed eggs for my personal consumption, so I ate them too. Dang tasty!!

I have a Sportsman setter and a separate hatcher. Love 'em! Want to upgrade to a digital, still pondering that.
