Well I am glad I got my eggs when I did if only one is laying! Hey, we have 11 fertile eggs in the incubator!! Great job Laura.

I see these frequently. I don't think it is in any particular line or anything & it doesn't bother me. These may go away with their next molt. If a bird had an entirely white primary feather or tail feather, then definitely I would not use that bird for breeding but do not worry about these incidental white flecks (on the females). However, I wouldn't want them in my males.

Quite honestly I do not know why everyone is questioning these white areas. I have them. They are caused by children!

Mine however is more prominent in the temple region........ Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is planning on a great New Year. I got my Christmas gift yesterday:

Bantams with the following names; Walnut, Chocolate Cake, Coconut, and Shishka.

The names pre-provided by a very nice 9 year old girl. They were so happy with their new home they provided me with the gift below.

Cute cute cute! Congratulations on your new Buckeye bantams. Only one of mine is laying now, but I am going to set what she lays. Looking forward to getting more from Duane Urch this spring too!

Just bkeep in mind that mine are Duane Urch too. Somtimes you don't have to stray to far from the nest!

No, no, only one BANTAM is laying. Have been getting four to five large fowl eggs per day, which is what I shipped you. That was right, wasn't it??

Now I'm worried I messed it up. Please confirm.

Thanks,

Laura

I think every bantam Buckeye out there is Urch, heck, I think every Buckeye out there, large and small, traces back to Urch.

Laura, you might be right! Would any of you be interested in some swapping? Buckeye banatm eggs for some type of bantam I might be interested in?

Sorry Laura!! That's what happens when I just pop in and write instead of READING!! Yes they are the large fowl. 11 are developing. Sorry to cause confusion.

No problem.

Glad to hear that 11 eggs are developing, please do keep me appraised as to how many hatch (keeping fingers crossed for 11!)

Cheers,

Buckeyes keep getting mentioned in the "Meat Bird etc" section. One poster even stated that they couldn't tell the difference between cut-up cornish x's and a cut-up buckeye on the grill.

The reasons for getting Buckeyes seem to HEAVILY out weigh any negatives.

This is why I keep bringing them up:

These are not my pictures, they came from the photo album on our yahoo group. As you can see, they are very meaty. If I remember correctly, this is from a 14 weeks old cockeral. I don't mean to keep harping about them being a good meat bird, but I feel it is very unknown at this point.
