I did that too, slipped some chicks under a broody. But... how soon is too soon to do that? Do they need to have sat for awhile or will a week of broody work?

A bit off topic. Last week I subscribed to Poultry Press...finally. Today I recieved the Feb 2010 issue. Was wondering if it was late, or did they just go ahead and mail the Feb copy and I'll get March in a few days. Just curious.

Well, I finally got around to setting some eggs Wed night, but am wondering if my incubator is having a temp issue or if it's my hygrometer. Temp is showing 99.2, which is not quite where I'd like it to be. Need to get another thermometer to compare.

Keep your fingers crossed for me though, I set about 60 eggs. Some were older/dirty (I refuse to throw out a dirty egg), so they may not hatch but I also put some brand new ones in there.

Now it's a matter of waiting...

My Buckeye chicks are chirping a lot. Does this mean they are wanting something(or lackingsomething)or is this something they do????

I plan on going to the show in Pine Bluff in April. I s there anybody going that would have some started chicks they could bring me that would be a good cross for my chicks. They are from Buckeye Dave via jenjscott.

I have a question for all you Buckeye folks. I may also post this over in the raising baby chicks thread or something. My most recent hatch of Buckeyes (from JamesA) are now 4 weeks old and now one of the babies is having foot problems. Her feet are curled in and she seems to have trouble walking. I was going to make boots for her like I have for other babies but she is older and I am wondering if it will work. I just noticed this last night, what causes it? Any other suggestions would be great.

If chicks are chirping a lot it means that something is wrong. Try adjusting the temperature in the brooder, usually making it a little warmer will help. Also make sure they are eating and drinking. I've got five chicks in a puppy crate in my bedroom and I've noticed that they let me know when their waterer is full of feed (so they can't drink).
