Buckeye Breed Thread

This is Cleveland - 5 months.

Here he is (also posted a few pages back) before we got him: You know now that I compare the two, doesn't really look like the same bird...

I'm a newbie, so take this for what it's worth.

In the pic before you got him, see those curling downward feathers in his tail? There are two -- one at the beginning of the tail feathers, and one out of the "stiff" tailfeathers. I can't see his tail clearly in the new pics, but that's what I'd look for.

I have a couple of cockerels with tails that show individual characteristics like this, and they've maintained the characteristic for the last several months (mine are 6 1/2 months old).

I may be "all wet", but that's what I'd look for.

I don't know much about the breed at all, as far as the standard. I've loved this thread and loved seeing everyones birds. We adopted him because they are just so rare. He'll probably just be a pet. However getting feedback on him is great, b/c the lady I got him from is interested in breeding them. She doesn't know what to look for, either, so thanks!!!!!

I do love them. this spring I plan on adding up to 50+ buckeye chicks.
