These are our first Buckeyes, and we are really enjoying them! They are extremely friendly, and come running when they see someone. They enjoy being held and geting a back rub, and food! One disappeared the other day, only to be found in the chick feed bag. How it managed to escape the brooder, and end up there

But, it had eaten itself into a contented stupor, and was sound asleep.

It's hard, for sure. But keeping vigor is important. Most of my Buckeyes fairly jump out of their shells. I am working to keep that vigor in my line.

Yeah I know. My buckeyes did seem much stronger than my rocks I hatched with them. First three to hatch were all buckeyes.

Jen, that's a great photo. That's a pretty house you've got there. And I just learned something, b/c I didn't know roosters could swim.

punky rooster, is that a staging area for chick photos? It kind of looks like it, with the white background. I haven't gotten any good pics of my little ones yet. Yours are very cute.

They're still not bad. My camera is awesome (it's for my husband's business), and I still don't take great photos. I think good light makes all the difference, though.

My chicks are about one week today. They started to get tail feathers yesterday, and their wings look longer and all mottled and pretty. There seems to be an alpha already, as well as a "lieutenant" of sorts. The smallest one is also the least rambunctious, though she eats and drinks and holds her own when necessary. Most of you have done the brooding chicks thing many times, but I can't imagine that watching their antics ever gets old. They are hilarious and also relaxing to watch.​
